Whiteley is a planned community of around 10,000 people at the 2011 census, built on former farmland close to Fareham, near Junction 9 of the M27 between Portsmouth and Southampton.

It is the most modern place we cover, and that generally makes it the most straightforward. Construction began in the late 1980s with an initial 3,300 houses, so the stock is new: driveways, wider doorways, decent turning space and room to work. Clearances here are usually about volume rather than access.

The area is still growing. A further 3,500 homes at North Whiteley were approved in July 2018 and are expected to be largely complete by 2027, so there is a steady amount of end-of-build and move-in clearance work alongside the usual household jobs.

Whiteley also has a substantial commercial side — the open-air shopping centre with parking for 1,500 cars, and Solent Business Park, home to Zurich Financial Services, the NATS headquarters and ITV Meridian. Business premises there mean loading bays, shared access and a site contact, so booking a specific slot matters more than it does at a house.
